Jacob - Reserve Textbook Desk

My name is Jacob Landesvatter, I'm 23 years old and I work at the Laney Library Reserve Desk and have done so for about two years now. I've been a student at Laney for six semesters now with a focus on Liberal Studies. This is currently my last full semester at Laney before I plan on transferring to Arizona State University in the fall. I hope to study Religion and Culture at ASU during my time there, because the evolution of the two is something that really interests me. It's also a matter that I feel I lack any substantial knowledge in and want to rectify that as much as I can.

I, Terhas Tekle, immigrated from Eritrea, East Africa to US in 2010. To make my dreams true,I have attended Laney College since 2014 majoring in Broadcasting Electronics Communications Art, and this Spring 2020 is my last semester, I transferred to SFSU. I worked at Laney library at several positions like assisting students with computers, helping students getting text books, copy documents, from 2015 Fall. It was a blessing experiencing with a great mentors who work hard to meet student's need. The great courage, kindness, help, moral support I got from each individual member during my working experience will never shade from my memory. My appreciation goes to every single member of the welcoming and helpful house. I am a mother of six year old son carrying dual responsibilities, as you can imagine how heavy the burden could be, it is really overwhelming. On the other side, thinking positively, this shall too pass and tomorrow will be another different story in my life, thus hopping that it is going to be a better it is great, visualizing the great tomorrow, I focus on my goals.

Mariama - Reserve Textbook Desk

I am a business Administration student at Laney college. I have been in the US for almost six years. I came here with my husband and six months old daughter, later I had my second child. Now, my kids are six and three years old. Being a mom is not an easy task, it’s a full-time job. I always put my kids interests first. Even though, I am a busy mom I always tried to find time to go to school. I started going to school in 2015. I have been a full and part time student; I do sometimes drop classes too (It depends on how busy I am each semester). I like going to Laney college, it is a good source of knowledge and information. I worked in the library in 2017 for one semester only. As a low-income family we struggle financially, so I had to stop school and go work to help paying bills. It wasn’t really a better decision I have made. In fact, I was working full time and when I would get home, I would do everything, cleaning, cooking, taking care of the kids…This situation led to huge personal problems. Afterward, I have decided to return to school and try to find job at the camps. That’s how I returned to work at the library, also at the student center. I really like working at these places, at the reserve desk we check in and out textbooks, we also help students with printing or just orient them if they any questions or issues. Unfortunately, we must stop working because of what is going on right now, COVID 19 and the shelter in place. It is a hard time for everyone; I hope this situation will be over soon. For my career interest, I would love to become a permanent worker at Laney college.

Hello, my name is Edwin Gatheru and I am a current student at Laney College. I have been for 3 years now. Also, I work as a student worker at the Laney College Library where I've been a student worker for almost 3 years as well. It's been fun, it's been informative, it's been educational. Also, I am majoring in Computer Science right now and I want to transfer to U.C. Berkeley.

Hello, my name is Terrance Ricks and I go by Terry. I have been a student here at Laney since Spring 2014. I have worked in the Laney Library since the Fall 2015 Semester. I work at the Front Loan Desk in the Laney Library and I do several duties within the Library. I enjoy the staff that I work with as well as the other student workers. It is very much like a family here in the Laney Library and I enjoy the patrons, community, and students that I am privileged to assist and serve. I am a Music Major at Laney and I participate in several of the ensembles in the Music Dept including The Laney Latin Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Combo, and The Community Choir. I plan to transfer to Cal State East Bay to get my Bachelor’s in Music.
